Match on action is when a sequence is carried across a scene in more than one shot.
Shot/ reverse shot is when the camera is focuses on two subjects in two different shots (usually used in conversations).
The 180 degree rule is when the camera stays behind the invisible line of 180 degrees.
This is the opening sequence to The Man With The Golden Arm by Saul Bass. It has a symbolic black background with white siluettes which represent the title of the film as the shapes look like hands and fingers. At the end i like the way that the shapes all murge into one hand and the string music represents chaos and violence.

This is the opening sequence to vertigo by Saul Bass. I think the effects that he used in this sequence represent the theme, vertigo. I think because at first there is a shot of the eyes and then the swirling patterns coming from the eyes give a sense of vertigo. Then the siluette sprinning on the floor also adds to the theme.

This is the opening sequence to the film psycho by Saul Bass.I think it represents the film well as there are lots of slashing actions through the words which add the psycho effect, also the music to the sequence is creepy, but fast and chaotic which gives it a sort of psycho feel to it.

These are some of the posters created by Saul Bass. These all follow a similar theme of bold colours and silluetes and also have the pictures to match the title of the film which are quite symbolic throughout Saul Bass' work. These are usually black or white so they stand out.
These are some of the logos designed by Saul Bass. They are in blocks of colours and are quite simple designs which makes them eye catching and memorable.
Saul Bass (May 8,1920 - April 25, 1996)
Here is an image of Saul Bass editing a film with his wife Elaine.
Saul Bass was a graphic designer and filmmaker, perhaps best known for his design of film posters and motion picture title sequences. He was born on May the 8th 1920 in New York City, USA.
He created title sequences such as The Man With The Golden Arm, Psycho and Vertigo. He also created new type of kinetic typography for Vertigo and Psycho.
This is a picture of different camera angles, movements and sizes which we would use during our filming. we filmed a variety of these shots during our lesson to help us get used to them.
For our AS media studies coursework we were given the brief of completing a preliminary task and a main task.
For the preliminary task I have to film and edit a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with who she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialouge. In this task i have to demonstrate match on action shot, reverse shot and the 180 degree rule.
We are also given a brief concerning our main task which is to create the titles and opening of a new fiction film, to a maximum of three minutes.
This is the type of tripod I had to set up and put away safely.
This is a type of camera i explored for all the different parts and attached to the tripod.
As my first media lesson I learnt how to set up a tripod to do a low angle, a high angle, a pan and tracking shot. I learnt how to attatch the camera to the tripod safely and how to charge the camera up.
